Mission
Our mission is to enrich the lives of all people who are visually impaired through participation in sports. The direct benefits are the same as any team sport: confidence, leadership, perseverance, camaraderie, exercise, and sportsmanship. The indirect benefits to this group are those that impact their everyday lives: increased mobility and agility, independence as well as a willingness to try something new. The athletes say “If I can do this, I can do anything!”
Beep Kickball (BKB) is currently played worldwide in over 500 locations in EVERY state in the United States and internationally in countries including Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, England, Ireland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, and Scotland!! BKB is a WORLDWIDE sport.

Our Story
In 2010, Beep Kickball was founded by Judy Byrd while volunteering with the Atlanta Beep Baseball Team. She noticed all the players were older teens and adults and wondered what sport the younger children played. Then it came to her – Beep Kickball. Same rules, different ball! Judy formed the Beep Kick Ball Association (BKBA) and has been a tireless advocate for individuals with visual impairments. In 2025, Judy “retired” from the BKBA and David Loy took over the reigns as Director. Judy remains an active advisor and life long advocate. Beep Kickball has become a worldwide sport for players of ALL ages with AND without disabilities.
The current “Beep Kickball Team” met in 2018 when Dr. David Loy invited Judy Byrd to East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina to be the keynote speaker and help “kick off “ the university’s Design-4-Disability initiative. There, she introduced beep kickball and thus built a friendship and mission with Dr. Loy to provide adaptive sport to the blind and visually impaired. In 2025, Judy Byrd formally “retired” as the Executive Director of the Beep Kickball Association and asked Dr. Loy to assume the Executive Director role. Dr. Loy is honored to carry on her legacy of growing the sport of beep kickball.
